About the Role

The Company is seeking an Assistant Executive Director to join its team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal, operational, and strategic support in the delivery of the organization's mandate. This includes advancing investigations, offering legal advice and analysis, and contributing to the development of legal strategies in line with legislative requirements. The role demands a high level of expertise in criminal law, including investigative techniques, and a deep understanding of the legal frameworks governing the authority of police and peace officers.



The Assistant Executive Director will also be involved in people and project leadership, leading complex initiatives, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Applicants must have a related undergraduate law degree, be a member of the Law Society of Alberta or eligible for admission, and have a minimum of 8 years' experience in practicing criminal law. The role requires significant senior management experience, a proven track record in leading change, and the ability to develop successful working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess expert knowledge of criminal law and procedure, the Police Act, the Criminal Code, and the Canada Evidence Act. They should also demonstrate cultural competencies for working with Indigenous and diverse communities, as well as solid negotiation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills. The position demands a high level of qualified judgment, decision-making, and the ability to operate independently while leading a multidisciplinary team.
