Position Summary
Under the direction of the Civil Superintendent, the Labourer Lead Hand plays a crucial role in the successful completion of North America Construction (1993) Ltd./NAC Constructors Ltd. construction projects. This individual will be actively involved in the construction process while leading and coordinating labour crews performing tasks related to heavy construction projects, including site preparation, excavation, dewatering, maintenance, demolition, material handling, and general construction activities. The Labourer Lead Hand is responsible for promoting safe work practices, supporting crew productivity, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with project requirements and quality standards. The Labourer Lead Hand must perform all work to regulated organizational, provincial, and federal standards and procedures. The ability to adhere to and uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and leadership is mandatory. The Labourer Lead Hand position provides guidance and mentorship to crew members while supporting the successful completion of construction projects.
Job Description
Perform work in accordance with all organizational, provincial, and federal health and safety standards and legislation, ensuring the highest standard of safety is upheld
Lead, coordinate,
and support labour crews in the safe and efficient completion of daily work activities. Conduct daily site assessments and identify potential hazards, implementing corrective actions as required
Assist with planning and organizing daily work activities to meet project schedules and productivity targets
Oversee and participate in site preparation, excavation, dewatering, general site clean-up, and maintenance activities
Ensure materials are handled, stored, and placed accurately in accordance with drawings, specifications, and project requirements
Coordinate and participate in formwork installation and stripping activities
Coordinate and participate in concrete placement, demolition, chipping, and rebar installation, ensuring compliance with project specifications
Operate and oversee the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and light construction equipment
Complete monthly equipment inspections and ensure tools and equipment are maintained in safe working condition
Maintain organizational facilities, equipment, and work areas in a clean and orderly manner
Report safety concerns, incidents, equipment deficiencies, and productivity issues to the Foreperson or Superintendent
Communicate effectively with the Foreperson, Superintendent, crew members, and other trades to support project objectives
Mentor, train, and support labourers, promoting quality workmanship, productivity, and adherence to company standards
Perform other related duties as assigned to support the successful completion of construction projects
Requirements
3-5 years of experience in the heavy civil or construction industry
Experience with site preparation, excavation, dewatering, material handling, and general construction activities
Experience with wood and advanced formwork systems, concrete placement, and concrete demolition
Rebar installation experience and knowledge of project specifications considered an asset
Some rigging and hoisting experience
Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings and specifications
Experience leading or directing crews and coordinating daily work activities
Solid leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively follow direction
Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and productivity
Knowledge of the safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment
Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and safe lifting and material handling procedures
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including heavy lifting, in varying weather and site conditions
Experience operating skid steers, telehandlers, and other light construction equipment considered an asset
Valid WHMIS, Elevated/Aerial Work Platform (EWP), Health and Safety Awareness Training for Workers, and Working at Heights/Fall Arrest certifications required
