This is a multisite position covering the Athabasca and Boyle Health Centre laboratories.Athabasca is a welcoming town in north-central Alberta, located along Highway 2, about 145 km north of Edmonton. With a population of roughly 3,000, it blends small-town charm with essential services. Rooted in forestry, agriculture, and education, Athabasca is home to Athabasca University and supports a diverse local economy. Surrounded by forests, lakes, and the Athabasca River, it offers abundant outdoor recreation. Boyle is a small, welcoming village in north-central Alberta, located on Highway 63, about 170 km northeast of Edmonton. Known for its friendly atmosphere and close-knit community, Boyle offers essential amenities and easy access to lakes, trails, and recreation—making it a peaceful and affordable place to live and work.The successful candidate willbe responsible forcollecting,processingand reporting quality specimens for analysis. The Medical Laboratory Assistant I primary responsibilities include collection of blood specimens from adults and children using macro and micro phlebotomy techniques, performing ECGs, complete urinalysis, accessioning patient information into the laboratory EPIC computer system, processing samples, transport of specimens and slides, troubleshooting problem specimens and reception duties. you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, effective and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results. Additional Required Qualifications: Equivalency is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and/or Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a MedicalLab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and/or MLT or CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Internal APL Employees who have completed a combination of formal training and/or on-the-job experience directly related to the representative duties and job responsibilities in the MLA I job posting. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. Upon hire, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these required training within the time frame established within the HSAA Collective Agreement. Preferred Qualifications: Recent (within the last year) experience in performing phlebotomy and ECGs. Recent experience with EPIC considered an asset.
