Under the direction of the Recreation Services Supervisor or Senior Recreation Services Supervisor based on facility, is highly skilled and holds a certification in their area of expertise relevant to the program area.

The Specialty Recreation Instructor is responsible for teaching comprehensive knowledge and/or skills to program participants in a high quality, fun, and inclusive setting. They are responsible for program planning, general safety, and overall enjoyment of the participants attending the program, as well as coordination of program operations, providing guidance to support staff, and customer relations.

PREFFERED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Hockey background and demonstrated understanding of the game, with the ability to confidently participate in and support hockey-related programs

Skating background with the ability to skate and demonstrate skills with confidence

Experience supporting or delivering programs in an arena environment

Strong customer service and communication skills

Ability to work safely and effectively with participants of all ages

PREFFERED TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS:

Standard First Aid & AED.

Previous experience working in a recreation facility

Valid B.C.



Driver’s License and safe driving record.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Knowledge and proven skills building relationships with patrons and dealing with behavior management.

Strong communication and presentation skills.

Excellent customer relation skills.

Independent decision-making, problem solving and analytical skills.

Ability to work well in a team.

A high level of creativity and flexibility.

Passion for teaching and helping others achieve their goals.

A combination of high-level education, certification, and experience in the relevant program area.

Experience working in an arena environment

This is part time term position with variable hours, as per operational needs, from September 2026 to April 2027.

Success in this position requires a high degree of flexibility and an ability to work varying schedules, which may include mornings, daytime, evenings and/or weekends.

The average starting hourly rate for this position is $28.73 with a range of $27.49 to $31.33 based on experience.
