Position Summary BCIT’s Human Resources department is seeking a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE ) Human Resources Assistant . This position provides wide range of customer service and support including providing information to employees at all levels on a variety of HR related inquiries. Provides administrative support to HR Department, processing various benefits/pension functions, records management and supporting service awards programs.
Duties & Responsibilities KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Greets visitors at the HR office reception and provides information on HR related areas. Responds to in-person, mail, electronic, and telephone inquiries.
Coordinates benefits enrolment activities, including responding to employee inquiries, providing relevant benefit plan information, enrolment process and forms; distributes benefits cards and liaises with related external parties including BCIT pension provider & Pension Corporation to follow up on related issues.
Works closely with HR Administration team to process employee entries in the HR information system pertaining to name, and address changes. Assists in determining benefit eligibility for employee groups; processes and distributes appropriate forms; notifies carriers of changes required and ensures that internal reporting methods for benefits coverage are maintained.
Supports pension administration of multiple pension plans, pension estimates, and purchase of service support, document preparation and certification, plus ongoing liaison with the Pension Corporation.
Coordinates the day-to-day management of office supplies, equipment, and general office maintenance for the department.




Manages mail on a daily basis including sorting and distributing incoming mail; prepares outgoing mail for pick-up and organizes courier / registered mail deliveries.
Administers multiple employee awards related tasks including tracking employees, coordinating correspondence and preparing letter and gifts for distribution.
Assists with onboarding and off boarding of Human Resources employees by ensuring all assigned tasks have been completed as per scheduled timelines.
Reviews and approves tuition fee waivers applications for staff requesting enrollment in BCIT courses; alerts HR Administration Manager for any red flags, as needed.
Ensures adequate records management of files, records and databases both on- and off-site by maintaining and storing them securely.
Carries out special assignments related to the department process improvement as required.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Completion of Grade 12 plus two years of post-secondary education.
Three years’ current and relevant experience preferably in a large unionized organisation.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Solid communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to provide clear explanations of policy, procedure, and other factual information.
Strong aptitude for exacting and precise work.
Solid customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with confidential and sensitive information
Basic analytical skills with ability to identify the root cause of administrative problems and take action to resolve
Solid organization skills with ability to work under pressure and deal with changing priorities and tight deadlines
Advanced proficiency with standard office systems and applications

Salary Range Salary Range $55,675 to $74,813 with a control point of $69,593 per annum.
Additional Salary Information The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and the maximum base salary for a position. The control point of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred, or promoted between the minimum and the control point of the salary range for a job, taking internal equity into account. Salaries above the control point may be considered for extenuating circumstances and must be approved by an external governing body.
