Serving the Saanich Peninsula located just north of Victoria, BC, the district has one of the highest graduation rates in the province and a student body that consistently scores well on annual assessment tests, thanks in large part to the dedication and efforts of our 900 teaching and support staff.

District Teacher Leader – Childcare and StrongStart

Under the general direction of the Director of Instruction-Learning and Innovation and within the context of the District’s Strategic Plan, the District Support Teacher will provide leadership in the area of Child Care with a focus on coordination, expansion and quality of third party operated programs and Strong Start. The Teacher Leader will provide district level support and oversight promoting quality early learning experiences aligned with Provincial frameworks.

NOTE: This is a District Position of Special Responsibility as defined in article B.32 of the Collective Agreement.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the primary liaison between school administrators and third-party child care operators

Support the development, expansion, and sustainability of school-based child care spaces

Assist with shared use agreements, space planning, and operational alignment within schools

Identify opportunities for new or expanded child care spaces

Ensure alignment with funding requirements, reporting expectations, and provincial priorities





Support school teams and partners in understanding and maintaining licensing standards

Provide leadership and oversight for StrongStart BC Early Learning Centres across the district

Support StrongStart educators in program quality, curriculum implementation, and family engagement

Ensure programs align with the BC Early Learning Framework and district expectations

Facilitate professional learning and collaboration among StrongStart educators

Support transitions into Kindergarten.

Collaborate with school teachers about Kindergarten programming

Provide mentorship, resources, and professional learning to school-based staff and administrators

Build and maintain relationships with child care providers, families, Indigenous communities, and local partners

Represent the district at regional or provincial child care planning tables

Regular travel between school sites and child care locations within the district

Flexibility to attend meetings outside of regular school hours as required

Required Qualifications & Experience

Valid BC Teaching Certificate, preference will be given to candidates with a master’s degree

Minimum 5 years of teaching experience with demonstrated leadership experience

Experience working with or alongside licensed child care programs or early learning settings

Strong understanding of third-party child care delivery models in schools

Demonstrated knowledge of child care licensing requirements in British Columbia

Knowledge of BC MECC policies, including ChildCareBC initiatives

Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills

Strong organizational, facilitation, and problem-solving abilities

Ability to navigate multi-stakeholder environments with diplomacy and clarity

Commitment to equity, inclusion, and reconciliation
