Under the direct supervision of the Lead Technician and Warehouse Planner, the incumbent performs a blended role combining framing and technical art installation functions in support of the Art Bank operations.

The Framer and Technician supports the preservation, presentation, installation and movement of the Art Bank collection. The position combines specialized framing expertise with technical responsibilities related to the handling, transportation, installation, storage and exhibition of artwork.

The incumbent performs both framing and technician functions. The proportion of time dedicated to each function may vary depending on operational requirements, business priorities and workload demands. The incumbent is expected to balance responsibilities across both areas and may be required to shift priorities as operational needs dictate.

As a framer, the incumbent is responsible for:

framing and reframing artwork in accordance with conservation and presentation standards; providing framing recommendations and design options for prize presentations, photographs and other corporate requirements; ensuring framing practices comply with conservation, preservation and copyright considerations; assisting in monitoring stock related to framing operations and materials; and performing other related duties.

As a technician, the incumbent works with the Art Rental and the Exhibitions and Outreach teams and is responsible for:

installing, relocating, crating, shipping and receiving artwork; delivering, retrieving and transporting artwork to and from client sites, government buildings, official residences, exhibition spaces (such as Âjagemô, at 150 Elgin Street)



and storage facilities, locally and nationally; verifying and documenting the condition of the artwork and preparing condition and damage reports; assisting in the management, organization, storage and preservation of the collection; providing technical support for exhibitions and outreach activities, including at Âjagemô and other venues; using ladders, scaffolding, elevation devices and specialized equipment in accordance with safety procedures; and performing other related duties.

A valid driver’s licence

Two (2) year college diploma or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience related to the responsibilities of the position.

Three (3) years of experience in an art environment with experience in art selection, aesthetic placement, handling, crating and installation, including the use of related power tools. One (1) year of experience as a professional fine art framer. Experience in driving a truck (up to 22 feet in length).

Knowledge of standards for framing artwork. Knowledge of conservation principles and best practices relating to the handling, storage, installation and transportation of artwork.

Solid interpersonal skills and strong mathematical skills. Robust time management skills, autonomous planning ability and a sense of initiative. Familiarity with using warehouse equipment and material handling equipment.
