Island Health is hiring a Speech-Language Pathologist to join the Public Health team in Port Alberni.

Your expertise can make a lasting difference in the lives of children and families. As a Speech-Language Pathologist with Island Health's Public Health team, you'll support children under kindergarten age by helping identify and address communication, feeding and swallowing challenges in community-based settings.

What You'll Do

- Screen referrals and complete intake, assessments and examinations for clients with communication delays or disorders and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties. Gather information from clients and families, review health records and develop and implement care plans or coordinate services as required.
- Evaluate and prioritize interventions, including diagnostic and testing procedures, to support the assessment and treatment of communication delays and disorders. Work with clients and caregivers to establish treatment goals.
- Provide education, coaching and guidance to clients and families regarding functional and rehabilitation needs, supporting client participation and independence.
- Monitor client progress, evaluate outcomes and modify care plans or refer clients to other health care resources as required. Identify learning needs and provide appropriate instruction and education.
- Provide information to community agencies about Island Health's speech and language services and the importance of early identification, intervention and prevention.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams, practice leaders, clients, families and other partners to provide coordinated care across the continuum.



Provide clinical work direction to designated care providers and volunteers.
- Participate in discharge planning, research, quality improvement, team conferences, meetings and the development of policies, procedures and standards that support effective program delivery.
- Maintain and evaluate clinical systems, tools, supplies and equipment. Accurately document and maintain client information in health systems and prepare reports in accordance with professional and Island Health standards.
- Provide orientation, guidance and support to peers, new staff and students, including student supervision and evaluation. Provide work direction to support staff.

What You Will Need to Apply

- Graduation from a recognized university program in Speech-Language Pathology
- Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as a Speech-Language Pathologist
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
