In this key leadership role, you will lead and support the organization’s safety program, providing guidance to operations teams and ensuring compliance with all safety, regulatory, and contract requirements related to highway maintenance operations. This is a full‑time salaried position based in Camrose, Alberta, reporting directly to the Corporate HSQE Manager.We are seeking a proactive, hands‑on safety skilled who brings strong interpersonal skills, technical expertise, and a demonstrated ability to lead effectively.Mainroad Alberta Contracting (Vermilion) LP was awarded two provincial highway maintenance contracts (CMA 512 and CMA 513), covering approximately 2,160 kilometres of highway and 59 bridges. A Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation is an assetCOR or ISO audit training (preferred)Minimum five (5) years of experience in highway maintenance, construction, or a closely related industry in a professional safety roleDiploma in Occupational Health and Safety (asset)Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean abstractStrong knowledge of federal, provincial,



and municipal safety requirementsSolid understanding of OH&S; legislation and related regulations, including the Alberta Workers’ Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workers’ Compensation Board requirements, Traffic Safety Act, and other relevant legislation and contract obligationsProven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal partners, senior leadership, and regulatory bodiesDemonstrated skill in managing difficult situations with tact, professionalism, and sound judgmentStrong verbal and written communication skills, including experience delivering training programsExperience coordinating and serving on workplace health and safety committeesExperience conducting internal audits in accordance with ISO 9001 and 14001 (preferred)Experience developing safety procedures, safe work practices, exposure control plans, and hazard assessmentsExperience conducting workplace incident investigationsExperience coordinating return-to-work programs and knowledge of accommodation requirementsAbility to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively in a team environmentExcellent interpersonal, organizational, time management, and problem‑solving abilitiesAbility to influence and lead others at various levels of the organizationStrong learning agility and attention to detailProficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and the ability to learn new software programsWillingness and ability to travel regularly to worksites throughout AlbertaWillingness and ability to work flexible hours as neededJob duties include, but are not limited to the following:Review, update,



and create hazard assessments, including those required for new activities and projectsWrite and revise Safe Job Procedures, Safe Work Practices, and Exposure Control PlansOversee compliance with OH&S; regulations, including safety audits, inspections, and verification of regulatory requirementsLead incident investigations, identify root causes, and work with operations to implement corrective actionsTrack, analyze, and report safety performance metrics and trendsEnsure completion of daily hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, and required inspectionsCoordinate and review subcontractor safety documentationOversee site and new employee orientations, as well as new and young worker monitoringDeliver safety training to employees and management, including program elements, procedures, and emergency responseConduct emergency drills and support emergency event escalationAudit operations for compliance, maintain audit schedules, and complete task auditsDocument the safety program and ensure all required information is posted and available to employeesSupport and evaluate the effectiveness of workplace safety committeesManage and support the Return-to-Work (RTW) program and accommodation‑related processesTrack, manage, and close out non‑conformities and corrective actionsLiaise with regulatory agencies and Mainroad Corporate Compliance staffPrepare and submit statistical reporting, including incident summaries, to Mainroad Corporate ComplianceContribute to annual Contract Reviews, Annual Performance Reviews, and winter reviewsLead and support the overall safety culture by providing guidance, resources, and expertiseResponsible for all safety‑related IMS activitiesMainroad Group is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion in our workplace.
