Quantum has partnered with an amazing global client in the supply chain and logistics sector to hire a high-impact DC Operations Manager with strong union/labour relations experience to manage the day-to-day operations of one of their highly automated production and warehouse facility. The successful leader will have a solid background in unionized manufacturing, distribution, or logistics environments and will be accountable for driving operational excellence, customer satisfaction, productivity, cost efficiency, equipment reliability, and a positive labour climate.
Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership and direction to the site's production, maintenance, Human Resources, IT Support, and operational teams, while ensuring effective product management and inventory control with a strong health and safety focus
Foster and maintain positive labour relations within a unionized environment, ensuring compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), applicable employment legislation, labour relations practices, and company policies
Partner closely with Human Resources on employee relations matters, grievances, investigations, disciplinary actions, performance management, employee engagement, and collective bargaining activities as required
Establish, define, and clearly communicate the overall goals, objectives, priorities, and performance expectations of the operation to the onsite team
Serve as a highly visible and engaged leader, building, coaching, developing, and training team members to create a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Maintain open and effective communication with key members of the national office and corporate teams to ensure alignment on operational priorities and business objectives
Build and maintain a collaborative relationship with customers, ensuring their operational needs, service requirements, and expectations are consistently met or exceeded
Hire, train, manage and guide the team to meet or exceed metrics and goals
Participate in the development and management of site budgets, operating plans, productivity targets, and key performance indicators
Identify opportunities to improve customer service, operational performance, cost effectiveness, and overall strategic growth
Train and coach employees on required work methods, company policies, operating procedures, quality standards, and health and safety requirements
Establish explicit operational direction for the facility by anticipating potential challenges, identifying operational risks, and developing preventative measures to minimize disruption and improve overall site performance
Champion a data-driven approach to operational management, using KPIs and performance trends to identify gaps, establish corrective actions, and drive measurable improvements
Maintain a clean, protected, organized, and compliant working environment while actively participating in and reinforcing the company's health and safety program
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications
University Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered
5-10 years of progressive leadership experience within a manufacturing, automated distribution, logistics,
or similarly complex operational environment
Demonstrated experience managing operations within a unionized manufacturing or distribution environment, with strong working knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements, grievance procedures, labour relations practices, disciplinary processes, and applicable employment legislation
Proven track record of success leading high-paced, complex operations while consistently delivering against productivity, service, quality, safety, and cost objectives
Strong people leadership capabilities with demonstrated experience building, developing, coaching, and motivating high-performing teams
Analytical and solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to identify operational challenges, implement effective systems and processes, and lead by example
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively engage employees, customers, corporate stakeholders, and leadership at all levels; French is considered an asset
Familiarity with fundamental maintenance principles, equipment reliability, preventative maintenance, and the operational requirements of automated facilities
Experience with budgeting, financial principles, cost management, and capital project management is considered an asset
Familiarity with quality management principles, continuous improvement methodologies, Lean practices, and 5S, with strong organizational and process management skills
Previous experience or knowledge within the grocery, retail, or consumer-facing distribution industry is considered an asset
Must be flexible and available to be on call and work alternate shifts periodically to provide vacation, overtime, or operational coverage as required
Must be able to travel to other sites in Canada and/or US for training, esp. during the first 3-6 months of employment
