District of Kitimat Firefighter / Paramedic (Up to 2 positions)

The Kitimat Fire and Ambulance Department is the only dual service department in the Province, providing both fire fighting and paramedic services to the community.

As a Firefighter/Paramedic, your primary functions are fire/rescue, pre-hospital emergency medical care, inspection/fire prevention and daily maintenance of the fire hall and equipment.

Preference for candidates with these qualifications

NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter ProfessionalQualification Level I & II

Primary Care Paramedic certification

BC Class 3 & 4 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement

Ability to obtain Security Clearance and Police Information and Vulnerable Sector Check





Work experience related to firefighting and/or pre-hospital care

Post-secondary education

IV endorsement

Candidates with their Primary Care Paramedic certification and the ability to obtain NFPA 1001 Standard for Fire Fighter Skilled Qualification Level I & II are encouraged to apply.

Recruitment Weekend An interview, physical fitness tests, and aptitude tests in paramedicine and mechanical knowledge. The District will cover the cost of accommodation and provide a $500 travel reimbursement for the recruitment weekend.

Wage information Wages are paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement and include wage parity to the City of Vancouver.

NEW: The District of Kitimat will wage match career firefighters based on work experience to a maximum of three years.
