Senior Data Architect to support client through implementation of Microsoft Fabric. Our public sector client is seeking a Senior Data Architecture to provide design strategies for a new multi-year program to modernize data ecosystem.

6 month contract to start, possible extension. 2 days a week onsite in Burnaby.

Must Have Skills:

2+ years of experience working in

Data Warehouse Architecture

3 years of experience with

Lakehouse solutions

2+ years of experience with

Azure

Previous experience with

Microsoft Fabric

Hands on experience with

Data Engineering

Nice to Have:

Experience with Data Architecture

Responsibilities: The primary objective of the project is to architect and implement a scalable, secure, and optimized data ecosystem on Azure to support the evolving data needs of the organization. Under the guidance of Senior Manager of Data Analytics & Governance, the Temporary Contractor will assis with the following key business areas:

Data Integration and Accessibility:

The DaaS Program aims to bring disparate data sources together, enabling seamless data integration across various systems. The Temporary Contractor will design data pipelines and ingestion frameworks on Azure that integrate, cleanse, and transform data from multiple sources into a centralized platform, ensuring accessibility for downstream analytics.

Scalability for Growing Data Volumes:

As data volumes increase, there is a pressing need for an architecture that can scale cost-effectively. The Temporary Contractor will design solutions that leverage Azure's scalable storage and compute resources to handle growing datasets without compromising performance, particularly in the bronze and silver layers of the data pipeline.

Transition to Cloud-Based Data Warehousing:





Migrating from on-premise data warehousing to an Azure cloud environment is central to the DaaS initiative. The Temporary Contractor will oversee this transition by establishing migration strategies, managing extract, transform and load (ETL) workflows, and validating data consistency across systems, ensuring a smooth transition without disrupting business operations.

Enablement of Advanced Analytics and AI:

By creating a modern data architecture on Azure, the Temporary Contractor will lay the foundation for advanced analytics and AI capabilities. This involves building data models and ensuring that data structure
