Role Overview
HOCS Projects is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Designer to develop electrical design drawings and documentation for industrial energy projects. Working with electrical engineers, lead designers and multidisciplinary project teams, the successful candidate will translate engineering requirements, project standards and field information into accurate, practical and constructible design deliverables from concept through detailed design, construction support and as-built updates.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and revise electrical drawings and design deliverables, including single-line diagrams, area classification drawings, equipment and lighting layouts, grounding layouts, cable tray and conduit layouts, cable schedules, panel schedules, wiring diagrams and control schematics.

Prepare electrical designs using approved engineering information, client standards, project specifications, vendor data and applicable codes.

Use AutoCAD and applicable 2D and 3D design tools to produce transparent, accurate and coordinated drawings and models.

Work under the direction of electrical engineers and lead designers to incorporate design criteria, calculations, mark‑ups and technical requirements into deliverables.

Coordinate electrical layouts and interfaces with Instrumentation and Controls,



Process, Mechanical, Piping, Civil/Structural and other disciplines.

Participate in model, drawing and multidisciplinary design reviews and incorporate agreed comments and resolutions.

Prepare and maintain cable schedules, equipment lists, drawing lists, material take-offs and other electrical design documentation.

Review vendor drawings and information and incorporate applicable details into electrical layouts and design packages.

Support brownfield work by reviewing existing drawings, field information, tie‑in requirements and site constraints.

Participate in site visits and field verification to gather design information, confirm existing conditions and support construction planning.

Update drawings and models using approved redlines and verified field information for issued‑for‑construction and as‑built packages.

Assist with responses to design‑related construction questions and revise drawings as directed by the responsible engineer or lead designer.

Maintain organized design files and follow checking, revision, quality and document‑control procedures.

Complete assigned work with awareness of scope, schedule, priorities and allocated design hours, and communicate delivery risks promptly.





Education, Professional Registration & Experience

Post‑secondary diploma or certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology or a comparable relevant discipline.

Approximately five or more years of electrical design experience, preferably in oil and gas, energy or industrial projects.

Proficiency with AutoCAD and strong knowledge of electrical drafting and design practices; experience with applicable 3D design tools is an asset.

Experience preparing electrical drawings and documentation such as single‑line diagrams, equipment layouts, grounding and lighting layouts, cable tray and conduit layouts, cable schedules, panel schedules, wiring diagrams and control schematics.

Ability to read and interpret P&IDs;, engineering drawings, specifications, vendor information and design mark‑ups.

Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and familiarity with applicable client and industry standards.

Experience coordinating electrical designs with multidisciplinary project teams.

Brownfield, field verification, construction or commissioning support experience is considered an asset.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with document‑management and engineering collaboration systems.

Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, teamwork and problem‑solving skills.

Legally entitled to work in Canada and willing to travel occasionally to industrial facilities and construction sites.
