Lead health and safety initiatives at Sq'éwqel, located near Agassiz, BC, as a Health and Safety Officer. Focus on fostering a culturally safe environment while ensuring compliance with all regulations.
As a Health and Safety Officer with Sq'éwqel (Seabird Island Band), you will play a vital role in maintaining a culture of safety and wellbeing. Your leadership will involve training, policy development, and risk assessment. You’ll also work in collaboration with various teams to ensure that safety practices reflect both regulatory standards and Indigenous knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement safety policies in compliance with WorkSafeBC
• Conduct risk assessments and recommend control measures
• Manage training programs for staff and young workers
• Oversee Joint Health and Safety Committee activities
• Address safety incidents and implement corrective actions
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in health and safety
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role
• Familiarity with First Nations community dynamics
• Certification or willingness to obtain Occupational First Aid
• Solid communication skills to advocate for safety
