Become a Legal Counsel for ASIRT and use your expertise in criminal law to address police oversight issues in Calgary or Edmonton. This full time position plays a critical role in providing legal guidance.
As a member of ASIRT, you will support legal processes and investigations that hold police accountable. The role emphasizes providing specialized legal advice and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. You will work independently, making prompt decisions in complex legal scenarios as they arise during investigations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support investigations by offering timely legal advice
• Review and approve judicial authorizations for legality
• Analyze completed investigations for legal sufficiency
• Educate staff on legal principles and procedures
• Collaborate with various legal entities and community partners
Requirements:
• Juris Doctor (JD) or LL.B. with 8+ years of experience
• Active member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta
• Strong understanding of the Criminal Code and Police Act
• Expertise in legal writing and complex cases
• Background in high-stakes legal environments
