Recursion is a leading provider of advanced analytics for the mortgage industry. We offer fast, cloud-based access to over 400 million loans, encompassing a substantial and growing share of agency pools. Our platform enables users to efficiently access and analyze large datasets, providing valuable insights into the mortgage market.
We are seeking a full-time Financial Engineer to join our team. This Canada-based role is employed by DataPrairie Inc. (9414-2122 Quebec Inc.) and supports the US-based Recursion team. This is a fully remote position; however, candidates located in Montreal are preferred.
This role involves building, maintaining, and optimizing high-performance analytics tools that drive insights in the mortgage and housing finance markets. The ideal candidate will apply quantitative and programming skills to large-scale mortgage datasets.
This employee will be deeply involved in projects developing tools for data collection, data analysis, report generation, back-end maintenance and development etc. The workload for this role is dynamic and requires juggling multiple tasks in parallel under tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain and optimize analytical tools for large financial datasets
- Extract, transform, process, and analyze data, including the development and maintenance of automated ETL workflows
- Develop queries and optimize data structures and workflows in cloud-based warehouses to support high-performance analytics
- Build dashboards, reporting tools, and automated reporting pipelines to deliver insights
- Ensure data accuracy through validation and quality checks
- Support clients and contribute to internal data products and analytical toolsets
- Monitor and troubleshoot production process, identify and diagnose root causes, and build safeguards against recurrence
Basic Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Financial Engineering, Quantitative Finance, Applied Math, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field
- Proficient in Python, Shell scripting, and SQL; basic knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, CSS
- Experience with data analysis, modeling, and large datasets
- Familiarity with version control tools (Git)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking skills
- Ability to translate business/analyst requests into precise data logic.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and attention to detail
Preferred Skills/Experience·
- 1-2 years in a similar quantitative role is preferred
- Basic understanding of agency MBS
- Experience with Linux system
- Experience with data warehousing, data structures and data quality assurance testing
- Familiarity with cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS)
- Experience with AI application development and model training
