Senior Officer, Accounting

The Corporate Management Services Branch is looking for a Senior Officer, Accounting for an indeterminate position.

The position is classified as a RÉ-05 ($77,281 to $102,535 per annum – under review).

A list of qualified people will be compiled and may be used for additional temporary or indeterminate positions.

JOB OVERVIEW
As a Senior Officer, Accounting, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, reliability and integrity of accounting records, with a primary focus on the general ledger and fixed assets subsidiary ledger. Working closely with the Manager Accounting, you will perform account reconciliations, contribute to the preparation of financial reports and the NCC’s financial statements, perform treasury management functions and support year-end audit activities.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION




A degree from a recognized university with an acceptable specialization in accounting, finance, business administration or commerce, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the following areas:

- Maintenance of accounting ledgers and preparation of reconciliations, including journal entries.
- Preparation of financial reports, including financial statements and related note disclosures.
- Preparation of supporting documentation for the year-end audit of financial statements.

KNOWLEDGE

- Of use of software tools, specifically electronic spreadsheets and financial systems.
- Of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices.

ABILITIES

- To provide recommendations for problem resolution.
- To pay attention to details: precision and accuracy.
- To communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

- Hold or be working towards obtaining a professional accounting designation (CPA).




- Knowledge of accounting processes and practices of the public sector.
- Knowledge of internal controls relating to financial and accounting operations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

- Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.
- Linguistic profile: Bilingual BBB.
- Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 12 York Street, Ottawa, Ontario.
