Overview
Join our dynamic poultry operations team as a Poultry Farm Labourer responsible for the daily care, monitoring, and handling of our poultry flocks in a safe and efficient manner. The role involves maintaining clean and healthy barn conditions, operating basic farm equipment, monitoring bird health and welfare, performing necessary barn maintenance, and following farm biosecurity and safety procedures.
Responsibilities
- Daily chores to monitor the health and well being of the birds
- Ensure feed and water are at optimal placement for bird access
- Monitor barn environmental conditions and ensure everything is optimal
- Removal of mortalities and handle sick birds as per farm biosecurity and protocol requirements
- Assist in preparing to ship birds at the end of the flock
- Help with clean out of the barn at turn over time - Removing manure, washing, disinfecting and performing preventative maintenance as well as fixing anything that requires attention
- Assist is bedding the barns once they are clean and start preparing them for the new chicks to come in.
- Placing of chicks and monitoring their activity
- All while following biosecurity, farm procedures, reporting to supervisor, keeping records and maintaining a clean working environment.
Qualifications
- Previous farm, livestock, poultry, or agricultural experience is an asset but willingness to learn will be considered
- Comfortable working with poultry and in a barn setting
- Physically capable of performing manual labour, including lifting, bending, walking, and working on your feet for extended periods
- Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize changes in bird health, behavior, feed, water, and barn conditions
- Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently while following direction from supervisors
- Ability to follow farm procedures, biosecurity protocols, and workplace health and safety requirements
- Good communication skills and willingness to report concerns promptly
- Basic mechanical or equipment operating skills are an asset
- Valid driver’s license is an asset
- Flexible availability, including the ability to work some weekends, holidays, and varying hours when required by flock schedules
- Must be comfortable working in a dusty, warm, and sometimes physically demanding barn environment
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of animal welfare, cleanliness, biosecurity, and farm safety
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent residence or have a valid work VISA
Pay: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.0 – 50.0 per week
