Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager or designate, and in the context of a multidisciplinary team, the Mental Health Therapist Provincial requires demonstrated competencies in Community Addiction and Mental Health as it relates to individuals who have come into conflict with the law. Working as a member of the Mental Health Diversion team this position requires cooperative work and a strong knowledge of Justice Services, Community Addiction and Mental Health and effective linking to other community-based services for voluntary clients, including responsibilities specific to screening, completing comprehensive addiction and mental health assessments, treatment, referral, writing court reports and intensive case management. Treatment knowledge and skill set must encompass both addictions and mental health and the ability to exercise a variety of clinical modalities such as CBT, trauma informed care, motivational interviewing and solution-focused therapy. Providing clinical expertise and documentation, while adhering to criminal court timelines is essential. Primary outcomes are aimed at reducing criminal activity and hospital visits, improving psychiatric status and quality of life and improving functional capacity for individuals with a mental disorder who have been charged with an offence. This position may support other duties as assigned.

Description:

As a Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent experience in conducting screening, comprehensive mental health assessments and dealing with clients in crisis. Knowledge and experience in individual counseling, using a variety of treatment modalities and assessment tools. Self-directed, highly motivated, exceptional leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Active and supportive team member. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

A strong working knowledge of the Justice system and the relative challenges for those with substance use and/or mental health illness who have come into conflict with the law is preferred.
