Structural Steel Detailing Coordinator
Location: Edmonton, AB

Position Overview
We are seeking a Structural Steel Detailing Coordinator to join our team and manage the detailing and fabrication drawing process for structural steel projects.

This position will act as the main point of coordination between our Project Management team, detailers, engineering consultants, clients, and fabrication shop.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing fabrication drawings from initial project handover through detailing, client approval, revisions, and final release to fabrication..

Key Responsibilities

- Review project drawings, specifications, scope of work, and applicable project requirements at the start of each project.
- Prepare and organize information required for detailers to begin shop drawings.
- Coordinate structural steel detailing activities and drawing schedules.
- Ensure detailers are working from the latest IFC drawings, specifications, design information, and client revisions.
- Review shop and fabrication drawings for general completeness, constructability, scope compliance, and coordination before submission.
- Coordinate RFIs and technical questions from detailers with Project Managers, engineers, clients, and other applicable parties.
- Track outstanding RFIs and ensure responses are communicated to the detailing team.
- Submit shop drawings to clients/consultants for review and approval.
- Track drawing submissions, approval status, comments, revisions, and resubmissions.
- Review client/consultant comments and coordinate required drawing revisions.
- Maintain drawing and revision control throughout the project.
- Ensure only the latest approved/released fabrication drawings are issued to the shop.
- Clearly communicate superseded, revised, or hold drawings to production personnel.
- Coordinate drawing priorities and required dates with Project Managers and the fabrication schedule.
- Identify drawing discrepancies, missing information, scope gaps,



and potential fabrication issues before they reach the shop.
- Maintain organized project records for drawing transmittals, RFIs, approvals, revisions, and related correspondence.
- Coordinate with Project Management, Procurement, Production, and Quality Control as required.

Qualifications

- Experience in structural steel fabrication, steel detailing, construction, or a related industry is strongly preferred.
- Good understanding of structural steel fabrication drawings, erection drawings, and engineering drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings and project specifications.
- Familiarity with structural steel members, connections, bolts, welds, plates, and typical fabrication practices.
- Experience coordinating with steel detailers, engineers, contractors, and clients is an asset.
- Experience with Tekla Structures, IFC/BIM models, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar software is an asset.
- Experience with Tekla PowerFab or other structural steel fabrication/ERP software is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational and document-control skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, drawing packages, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Solid attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies before drawings are released for fabrication.

We are looking for someone who is organized, technically capable, and comfortable taking ownership of the complete fabrication drawing workflow.

The ideal candidate understands the structural steel fabrication process and the importance of accurate drawing coordination, revision control, and timely release of drawings to keep fabrication moving and prevent errors, delays, and rework.

This position is well suited to someone with previous experience as a structural steel detailer, detailing coordinator, project coordinator, or fabrication coordinator.

Job Types: Permanent, Full-time

Pay: From $30.00 per hour
