TRAF (Teachers' Retirement Allowances Fund)
Winnipeg
Located in downtown Winnipeg at The Forks, TRAF (Teachers’ Retirement Allowances Fund) is seeking an innovative and dedicated Full Stack Developer. Reporting to IS management, this hands-on engineering role has real ownership within the small in-house development group. You'll lead the design and development of a modern member portal from the ground up while ensuring the current platform remains stable and secure throughout the transition.
As the senior technical voice on the team, you'll help shape architecture, establish development standards, guide key technical decisions and oversee an external delivery partner to ensure high-quality outcomes. If you're looking for the autonomy of a lead role, the opportunity to build something new and the stability of an established local institution, this is a rare combination.
As the Full Stack Developer, you will:
- Lead the technical design and hands-on development of a modern member portal, from architecture through delivery.
- Maintain the stability and security of the existing portal during the transition, addressing enhancements, fixes and vulnerabilities as needed.
- Develop and review production-ready code across the front end and back end while setting high standards for quality and maintainability.
- Establish and champion secure development practices, including code reviews, testing, dependency management and secure-by-design principles.
- Collaborate with an external delivery partner to define technical approaches, provide direction and review deliverables.
- Partner with DevOps and security teams to ship reliable, secure software.
You and Your Experience:
- Five or more years of full-stack software development, including senior or lead experience on production systems.
- Post-secondary education in a related field,
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A track record of owning application architecture and making sound design decisions.
- Strong hands-on experience with modern web technologies, such as PHP/Laravel, React, or comparable front-end and back-end frameworks.
- Solid knowledge of secure development practices. Proficiency using AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity while maintaining rigorous standards for testing, code review and security.
- Experience integrating contemporary applications with enterprise or legacy back-end systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to guide, evaluate and collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
- Familiarity with identity federation technologies (OIDC/SAML) and enterprise systems such as IBM i/DB2 would be considered an asset.
- Ruby/Rails experience to maintain and transition our legacy portal – or a willingness to learn it – would also be an asset.
Why TRAF:
- A senior role with genuine ownership and the chance to build something new.
- On site in Winnipeg, working with a close-knit internal team.
- Comprehensive benefits, paid time off and a defined benefit pension plan.
