About Enerva
Enerva Energy Solutions Inc. designs and delivers energy-efficiency and decarbonization programs for utilities and government agencies across Canada. We help residential, commercial, and industrial customers reduce energy use, costs, and greenhouse gas emissions. We also develop the software and data tools that support program delivery, measurement, and reporting. As a growing team, individual contributions are visible and have a direct impact.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a hands-on Software Developer to design, build, release, and support the web applications, data tools, and AI-enabled features at the core of Enerva's energy and emissions programs. You will own meaningful problems from initial concept through production, write reliable code, contribute to technical and architectural decisions, and work directly with the teams that use what you build.
This role is well suited to someone who is curious, resourceful, and comfortable learning new tools when a project requires them. You will work across the software stack and help determine where AI and automation create genuine value for our users and programs.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, test, and maintain web applications and data tools used by Enerva's internal teams and clients.
- Work with energy and emissions data by cleaning, validating, modelling, and transforming it into useful information and product features.
- Prototype and integrate AI and machine-learning capabilities, including LLM-based tools, automation, and analytics, while evaluating where they provide meaningful value.
- Design and consume APIs, build reliable system integrations, and maintain accurate data flows between platforms.
- Translate business and program needs into practical technical solutions in collaboration with users and stakeholders.
- Take features from an initial idea through development, testing, deployment, production support,
and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to technical design decisions, code reviews, documentation, troubleshooting, and software-quality practices.
- Work flexibly across the technology stack and contribute wherever your skills can best support a collaborative, growing team.
What We're Looking For
- Strong programming fundamentals and the ability to write clean, reliable, and maintainable production code.
- Proficiency in Python and practical experience with at least one modern web-development stack, such as JavaScript or TypeScript with React.
- Comfort working with SQL and relational databases, including designing queries and validating data at the source.
- Experience deploying or supporting applications in a cloud environment such as AWS or Azure.
- Hands-on experience building with AI or machine-learning technologies, such as using LLM APIs, training or evaluating a model, or delivering an AI-enabled project at work, school, or independently.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies and work through ambiguity.
- Explicit communication and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- A self-starter approach, sound judgment, and a focus on delivering useful, dependable software.
Early-career applicants: Recent graduates and early-career candidates with strong practical experience through co-op placements, internships, academic work,
or independent projects are encouraged to apply. Shortlisted candidates may be invited to complete a practical technical assessment focused on how they think, solve problems, and build. We assess demonstrated capability alongside formal experience.
Nice to Have
- Deeper experience in AI, machine learning, data engineering, or analytics.
- An interest in or background related to energy, sustainability, climate, or emissions reduction.
- Experience working in an early-stage, growing, or small-team environment.
Why Join Enerva
- Build software that is used by Enerva's program teams, utilities, businesses, and households participating in energy-efficiency programs.
- Work within a short path from idea to production, with direct access to the people making decisions and using the product.
- Influence technical choices, the evolution of Enerva's software stack, and where AI belongs in our products.
How to Apply
Please apply through Indeed or at [
[email protected]] with your resume and a brief note about something you have built. Links to code, side projects, portfolios, or other work you are proud of are encouraged and are more useful to us than a traditional cover letter.
