Youth Assistant

Report to: The SLNRC Youth Assistant will be an employee of the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre (SLNRC). Day-to-day supervision/consultation will be provided by the SLNRC &/or NRAWP Youth Supervisors.

Position overview: SLNRC & NRAWP provide programming for youth ages 11-24 years in the Westminster and White Oaks area. The Youth assistant will support the youth programs alongside the NRAWP & SLNRC Youth Supervisors. They will facilitate programming with youth, ensuring it is engaging, inclusive and relevant.

Commitment & Wage:

This is a part time position for up to 12 hours per week that may include working the evenings & possible weekends during the school year from October 2026 to June 2027. The wage is $23.50/hr.

Responsibilities:

 Assist the Youth Supervisors to provide an inclusive program where all youth feel welcome and supported

 Support the daily activities of youth program as well as various activities and events

 Act as a mediator when conflict arises and handle problems fairly

 Motivate and encourage youth to engage in activities

 Assist with promotion of youth programs

 Obtain and share relevant information, programs, events and resources with community

 Be a positive role model to the youth and as a representative of SLNRC & NRAWP

 Establish trust and positive relationships within the Westminster Park and White Oaks neighbourhoods

 Maintain accurate data collection and meet all reporting deadlines with related funders

 Maintain clean and secure program space and equipment

 Abide by the policies and procedures of the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre

 Report to the Youth Supervisor & Manager of Youth Services

Qualifications:

 Clearance through a Vulnerable populations police screening process (over 18yrs)

 Must have a valid social insurance number and be eligible to work in Canada

 Good organizational and time management skills

 Good interpersonal skills

 Capacity to build relationships with youth, community members and partners

 Proven ability to work with diverse and ethnic/cultural backgrounds

 Motivated, self-starter and able to work in a fast-paced environment

 Capacity to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team

 Responsible, trustworthy, approachable and friendly

 Understanding of boundaries between your role and youth participants
