Battle River Energy Ltd. (Battle River) is a junior oil company, with a head office located downtown Calgary. Founded in 2018, Battle River is a conventional heavy oil producer operating in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB).
The Role
Battle River is seeking a Junior Analyst, Data Analytics & AI to join our team for the Fall 2026 term. This is a excellent opportunity for a student with an interest in data analytics, automation, and artificial intelligence to gain hands-on experience in the oil and gas industry, working alongside our Accounting, Operations, and Engineering teams to turn data into actionable insight.
Accountabilities
Data Analytics & Reporting
- Collect, clean, and organize data from various operational and financial systems.
- Build and maintain dashboards and reports to support production, financial, and operational analysis.
- Analyze trends and variances to support decision-making across departments.
AI & Automation
- Support the development and testing of AI/ML tools and automation scripts to improve data workflows and reporting efficiency.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to apply AI and data analytics tools to streamline processes.
- Research and evaluate emerging AI tools and technologies relevant to the business.
Collaboration & Support
- Work with cross-functional teams, including Accounting, Operations, and Engineering, to understand data needs and deliver insights.
- Support ad hoc data requests and analysis for management.
Documentation & Data Management
- Maintain accurate documentation of data sources, models, and processes.
- Support data quality and data governance initiatives.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
- An interest in the Canadian oil and gas industry.
- Experience or coursework in Python, SQL, or similar data tools.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and tools (e.g., machine learning frameworks, large language models) is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Position Details
Duration: Co-op / Internship — September 2026 to December 2026 or May 2027
Hours: 2–5 days per week (flexible around academic schedule)
Pay: $22.00 per hour
Work Location: In-person required — Calgary, Alberta
