Forest View Staining Limited, an exterior wood restoration and renovation company serving the Greater Toronto Area since 2000, is seeking a Carpenter Helper to support our renovation carpenter on residential exterior projects.

This is a new posting for a helper role. The successful candidate will assist with deck, fence, pergola, and exterior repair work under direction. This is not a lead carpenter position and does not include staining or refinishing duties.

Important Note on Engagement

This is a subcontractor (independent contractor) position. The successful candidate will operate as an independent contractor, invoice for services rendered, and be responsible for their own income tax, Canada Pension Plan (CPP), and Employment Insurance (EI) contributions. There are no employee benefits or statutory entitlements associated with this role. A formal Independent Contractor Agreement will be required. We operate in full compliance with applicable CRA and Ontario regulations.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist the renovation carpenter with exterior carpentry on residential properties, including decks, fences, pergolas, and structural repairs.
- Handle materials, measure and cut under direction, fasten components, and complete assigned carpentry support tasks.
- Help with demolition, site setup, and removal of old or damaged wood components.
- Work safely at heights using extension ladders once trained and certified.
- Keep job sites clean, organized, and respectful of client property.




- Follow instructions from the owner and lead carpenter and maintain skilled workmanship.
- Travel to job sites across the Greater Toronto Area.

Compensation

- $25.00 per hour, paid upon invoicing.
- Approximately 40 hours per week during the active season.
- Reduced hours during winter months.
- Opportunity for continued seasonal work based on performance, reliability, and mutual agreement.

Requirements

- Experience as a carpenter helper, construction labourer, or renovation labourer is preferred. This role is intended for someone who can take direction and learn on site, not a first-day trainee with no construction exposure.
- Physically able to lift materials, work outdoors, and stand for a full workday.
- Comfortable working at heights or willing to complete Ontario Working at Heights training after hire.
- Able to communicate in English and follow detailed instructions.
- Reliable attendance and a professional attitude on residential job sites.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- A personal vehicle is not required.
- Personal tools are not required; company tools will be provided on site.

Preferred

- Prior work on decks, fences, exterior repairs, or residential renovation sites.




- Valid Ontario Working at Heights certificate (CPO-approved), or willingness to obtain it promptly after hire.
