Job Summary:
The Ice Rink Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and staffing of the Middleton & District Arena. Reporting directly to the Middleton & District Rink Commission, the Arena Manager ensures the smooth running of the rink, providing a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all users. This role involves supervising a small team of arena attendants and managing the facility’s daily operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facility Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the ice rink, ensuring that the facility is properly maintained, safe, and clean.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules for ice resurfacing, equipment upkeep, and general facility cleaning.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory requirements, including ice quality and refrigeration systems.
- Staff Supervision and Development:
- Recruit, train, and supervise a team of arena attendants.
- Schedule staff shifts, ensuring adequate coverage for all rink activities, events, and peak times.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing training, development and mentoring for staff.
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, professionalism, and high standards of customer service.
- Daily Operations:
- Drive and operate the Olympia on and off the ice safely.
- Prepare and maintain Arena ice to a high standard. Adhere to all safety protocols as deemed required by the Board and/or industry standard.
- Seek out and report existing or potential issues with the facilities to the Arena Manager, in the interest of maintaining the facilities and equipment in optimal condition.
- General Maintenance:
- Participate in keeping all areas of the facility neat, clean and safe at all times. This includes sweeping and mopping the Arena restrooms, locker rooms, warm room, lobby, meeting rooms, bleachers and removing trash, cleaning the glass, etc.
- Making sure all entrances are clear and secure of debris and snow. This includes removing sidewalk ice or otherwise managing slipping risks.
- Report simple repairs and maintenance of various Arena and ice related equipment, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including participating in non-ice related activities as needed (eg. event set up and tear down, supporting community events held in the Arena.
- Financial Management:
- Oversee cash handling procedures, including admissions, skate rentals, and concession sales, ensuring accuracy and accountability.
- Identify opportunities for revenue generation through special events, sponsorships, and partnerships and share with the Middleton & District Rink Commission.
- Customer Relations:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for rink users, addressing concerns, resolving conflicts, and ensuring a positive experience for all patrons.
- Develop and implement customer service initiatives to enhance user satisfaction and increase facility usage.
- Collaborate with local community groups, schools, and sports organizations to promote the rink and its programs.
- Represent the Middleton & District Arena with kindness, honesty and integrity, particularly in dealing with children.
- Greet customers, answer questions, and provide information about rink schedules, programs, and events.
- Assist with skate and helmet rentals, fitting, and returns, ensuring equipment is properly stored and maintained.
- Maintain rental skates and assist patrons with skating sharpening.
- Program and Event Management:
- Oversee all rink activities, including public skating sessions, hockey games, figure skating lessons, and special events.
- Work with the Rink Commission to plan and execute community events, tournaments, and other special programming.
- Ensure that all events are well-organized, staffed appropriately, and meet the needs of participants.
- Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare and present monthly reports to the Middleton & District Rink Commission on facility operations, financial performance, and staffing.
- Attend Commission meetings, providing insights and updates on the rink’s status, equipment updates and future planning.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including staff, patrons, community partners, and the Rink Commission.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in facility management, preferably in a recreational or sports setting.
- Proven experience in staff supervision.
- Knowledge of ice rink operations, including ice maintenance and safety standards, is highly desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- Certifications:
- Basic first aid and CPR certification is an asset.
- Ice resurfacing certification (e.g., Zamboni operation) is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in cold environments for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move on ice for prolonged periods.
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Exposure to cold temperatures and loud noise levels.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.50-$22.00 per hour
