Status

Position Summary

Supply Educational Assistants support children and youth in educational settings who have a wide range of abilities and exceptionalities including autism, developmental delays, significant emotional and behavioural challenges, mental health issues, learning difficulties and physical health concerns.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

- Support the instructional, behavioural and emotional needs of students in complex classroom settings.
- Assist with planning, implementing and reviewing individualized program plans.
- Adapt or modify written classroom materials and visual tools to meet the specialized needs of students.
- Scribe for students by translating complex ideas into clear written text and break multi-step instructions into simple written guides.
- Model clear speech, social communication strategies, and language skills on a daily basis.
- Facilitate and encourage positive verbal and non-verbal interactions between students, peers and staff.
- Apply calm,



effective verbal strategies to diffuse challenging situations and maintain a safe learning environment.
- Supervise students during breaks, bus arrival/departure, and community outings.
Log precise daily data regarding student progress, behaviour, and Individualized Program Plan (IPP) goals.

Education/Qualifications

- Educational Assistant Certificate or Child and Youth Care Diploma
- two years related experience, preferably in an educational environment
- ability to work in complex environments requiring constant supervision of high risk students
- proven ability to implement effective verbal de-escalation strategies
- flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments
- strong English fluency with the ability to scribe rapidly, rephrase complex concepts in writing, and articulate instructions clearly
- demonstrated success building robust collaborative relationships with teachers, co-workers and specialized support teams
ability to perform physical activities including standing, walking, running, lifting, transferring, bending, crouching, and providing personal care as necessary

Rate of Pay

$23.58 - $25.34 per hour

About What We Have to Offer

Nature of Work

Supply Services offers:

- hourly, on-call work - up to 7 hours per day (Monday – Friday)
- long term part-time and full-time assignments
- eligibility to apply for permanent, advertised positions
- a comprehensive benefits package for staff in long term assignments beyond 25 working days in duration or who gain permanent employment

Those interested should be prepared to travel to various schools throughout the city of Edmonton.
