Assistant Instructors are responsible for teaching basic ice skating and hockey skills to children -- ages 3-12. Employees within this job classification must work very well with primary ages and they must have solid interpersonal skills to communicate with parents. The Assistant Instructor ensures the program is delivered as intended by Management and that it meets or exceeds client standards.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Arrive 15 minutes early to set up training materials and greet participants
- Organize the warm-up skate while the Head Instructor takes attendance
- Teach and manage small groups independently, with brief direction from the Head Instructor.
- Set up equipment for drills as necessary (cones, pucks, etc.)
Job Requirements
- Experience playing hockey or figure skating at a competitive level
- Extensive knowledge of skating fundamentals and development tactics
- Strong planning and time management skills
- Must be physically able to work on the ice for up to 5 hours in a row
- Capable of lifting up to 50lbs to assist a child off the ice, if necessary
- Valid First Aid & CPR - Level C Certification
- Mandatory Uniform Purchase. Tracksuit & gloves $100; personal hockey helmet and hockey gloves may be worn or purchased from The Zone at cost.
Shift Times Available
- Wednesdays: 4pm - 7pm
- Fridays: 415pm - 830pm
- Saturdays: 830am – 130pm
- Sundays: 8am - 12pm
Additional Consideration
Applicants must have a personal vehicle or look at the Guelph Transit options to ensure they work with the shift times.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
