About Us

The Numerical Cognition Laboratory (NumCog Lab), directed by Dr. Daniel Ansari in Western University's Department of Psychology, conducts research examining the cognitive and developmental processes underlying numerical and mathematical learning.

Our research involves children, families, and adults and uses behavioural and computerized assessments to better understand how numerical and mathematical abilities develop and vary between individuals. The lab includes faculty, research staff, graduate students, and undergraduate research assistants working collaboratively across ongoing research projects.

Responsibilities

The Technical/Research Support 1 position will support ongoing research activities within the Numerical Cognition Laboratory. The role will involve conducting standardized research assessments and other research functions in collaboration with the lab team, maintaining research records, and compiling data in accordance with established procedures.

Responsiblities

- Conduct in-person research assessments with children and families in accordance with prescribed study procedures and approved research protocols.
- Assist with participant recruitment, scheduling, and communication with participating families.
- Set up and administer standardized behavioural and computerized research tasks.
- Prepare research materials and equipment for participant sessions and maintain materials as required.
- Maintain accurate participant and research records.
- Enter,



organize, and compile research data and results.
- Assist with routine data quality checks and identify missing or incomplete study information.
- Work collaboratively with members of the research team to support ongoing studies and day-to-day laboratory activities.
- Maintain participant confidentiality and follow laboratory, research ethics, privacy, and safety procedures.

Qualifications

Education:

- Community College Diploma in a related field, or a university bachelor's degree in a relevant area of focus with one year of experience in a related technical field.

Experience:

- Previous experience supporting behavioural, developmental, or psychology research is preferred.
- Experience working with children and families is considered an asset.
- Experience administering standardized research assessments is considered an asset.

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to accurately follow prescribed research procedures and maintain complete records.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a research team.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality when working with research participants and sensitive information.
