Senior Java Integration Engineer – Microservices
Our client — a well-established, high-growth marketplace company — is modernizing how its CRM platform connects to the rest of its business. As part of a strategic shift to a more proactive, event-driven architecture, they're seeking a Senior Java Integration Engineer to help lead this transformation.
This is a hands-on, high-visibility role on a growing engineering team that's moving away from legacy ETL processes toward a modern, Kafka-based event-streaming architecture — including new integrations with cloud data platforms and generative AI (via AWS Bedrock/Claude) to automate business decisioning. You'll be one of the first dedicated integration specialists on this team, with real ownership over how the architecture evolves.
Senior Java Integration Engineer – Microservices Job Details
- Design, develop, and support backend microservices (Java or Kotlin, Spring Boot) that integrate a CRM platform (Salesforce) with other enterprise systems.
- Own and help evolve the team's event-driven integration architecture, replacing legacy batch/ETL processes with real-time streaming patterns.
Integration & Development
- Build and maintain event-driven integrations using Kafka and modern messaging/streaming tools — this is core to the role, not a nice-to-have.
- Write clean, well-tested code (TDD/ATDD) and contribute to CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and observability practices.
- Help scale a small but growing microservices footprint as the team expands its ownership beyond the CRM ecosystem.
Collaboration & Support
- Act as a technical leader for microservices best practices — mentoring team members and helping shape how the team designs, builds, and scales services.
- Collaborate with the Development Manager, QA, Product Owners,
and Solution Architects to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Provide occasional on-call support for production microservices — infrequent, in a business-hours-focused environment.
Senior Java Integration Engineer – Microservices Mandatory Skills
- 5+ years of backend development experience in Java or Kotlin (Spring Boot); Java-only candidates are welcome, as Kotlin is a natural next step.
- Proven experience integrating systems/applications via APIs, middleware, or event-driven architecture — candidates with strong Kafka or similar streaming experience will stand out.
- Strong architectural judgment — able to speak clearly about design trade-offs and how to build something extensible and maintainable.
- Solid grounding in Test-Driven Development, CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices.
- Strong communicator, comfortable working directly with cross-functional, non-technical stakeholders.
- A track record of ownership — someone who takes personal accountability for outcomes, asks for clarification when needed, and follows through.
- Able to work onsite three days per week (Tuesday–Thursday).
Nice to Have
- Salesforce experience (Apex, SOQL, Platform Events/CDC, or familiarity with the Salesforce data model) — genuinely optional; the team already has this covered and can teach it on the job.
- Kubernetes and CircleCI (or similar CI/CD platforms) experience.
- Exposure to Snowflake, Data Cloud, or similar data platforms.
- Interest or experience in applying generative AI (e.g., AWS Bedrock, Claude, GitHub Copilot) to real business workflows.
