You will have the opportunity to grow and lead the work execution in the field and at substation sites. You will further develop invaluable, on how to commission, maintain, service and troubleshoot electrical equipment, with hands-on experience the area of Power System and Electronic Monitoring and Control Equipment used in the Power Generation, Power Transmission, Power Distribution Systems, as well as in the Commercial and Industrial Industry.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, this role plays a key part in ensuring the safe reliable, and efficient operation of electrical infrastructure across substations, industrial facilities, utility environments, and renewal energy sites. The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, engineers, and client to delivery high-quality field services while upholding the highest standards of safety, technical excellence, and customer satisfaction.

Technical job training will be provided.

We are seeking highly motivated individuals for this role of Sr. Substation Technician/Technologist to join our growing team.

Responsibilities

- Perform inspection, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning of medium- and high-voltage electrical equipment.
- Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on switchgear, circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, buswork, protective relays, and associated station equipment.
- Perform electrical testing including insulation resistance, contact resistance, transformer testing, primary and secondary injection testing, and protective relay testing.
- Commission new substations, electrical installations, system modifications, and upgrades.




- Diagnose electrical equipment failures and identify corrective actions through detailed troubleshooting and analysis.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, protection and control drawings, and single-line diagrams.
- Install, test, calibrate, and verify protective relays and associated control systems.
- Support construction, retrofit, modification, and ongoing maintenance projects for substation and electrical infrastructure.
- Prepare detailed testing records, commissioning documentation, maintenance reports, and technical field reports.
- Maintain testing equipment, specialized tools, and company assets in safe and operational condition.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, Technicians, and client representatives to ensure successful project delivery.
- Adhere to all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Management System requirements.
- Participate in hazard assessments, job safety briefings, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe work planning activities.
- Identify and report hazards, near misses, equipment deficiencies, and continuous improvement opportunities.
- Maintain required technical certifications, safety training, and industry competencies.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional service and technical expertise.
- Support emergency response work, planned outages, and scheduled maintenance activities as required.
- Travel to client sites throughout Southern Ontario and other locations as needed.
- Contribute to organizational success through technical excellence, professionalism, safety leadership, and outstanding customer service.

Experience & Qualifications

- Completion of an Electrical Engineering Technology/Degree program, Electrical Apprenticeship, or an equivalent electrical trade qualification.




- Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience working with medium- and high-voltage electrical systems.
- Proven experience performing testing, maintenance, commissioning, and repair of substation and industrial electrical power equipment.
- Strong working knowledge of switchgear, circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, protective relays, and associated electrical apparatus.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, protection and control drawings, and single-line diagrams.
- Experience using electrical testing equipment including insulation resistance testers, relay test sets, transformer test equipment, and other diagnostic tools.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, compliance, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with digital field reporting software is considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively in a fast-paced field environment.
- Valid Class G Driver’s License and willingness to travel to client sites as required.

Pay: $45.00-$60.00 per hour
