FUNDAMENTAL OBJECTIVE

Perform assigned tasks involving physical labor at sites to contribute to site projects being completed in a quality fashion, safely, proficiently and on time. .
GENERAL ACCOUNTBALITY
The incumbent reports to the site supervisor or lead hand and is also accountable to the branch/construction manager.

NATURE AND SCOPE
The skilled labourer takes direction from the Lead Hand or Site Supervisor. The incumbent relies on his/her supervisor’s direction to plan and accomplish goals. As part of a work crew, the Skilled Labourer will interact with fellow labourers, tradesmen, operators, sub-contractors and safety personnel. Work outside of office hours and travel may be required depending on job scope and location.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

· Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards and ensure optimization of construction work procedures
· Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities
· Assist tradespersons such as welders, pipefitters etc. in construction activities
· Operate construction-related equipment (e.g., driving trucks or forklifts etc.) to transport materials and equipment
· Operate large powered machinery and equipment (e.g., saws, drills, grinders, blowtorches, pressure cleaners, jackhammers).
· Erect temporary structures and scaffolding
· Place traffic signs to warn traffic of construction in process
· Clean and maintain construction equipment appropriately
· Align structural components according to blue prints




· Ensure that all work is being done safely and in compliance with company protocol
· Train apprentices and new hires in construction labor work
· Use hand tools to cut and shape material
· Clean up chemical spills and other contaminants and remove other hazardous materials
· Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, of machinery, equipment, etc.
· Control traffic passing near work areas by directing with signs, barricades, and traffic cones.
· Attend site meetings /toolbox huddles

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
· Places safety as top priority for themselves and coworkers
· Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision
· Manual Dexterity: Repeated and coordinated use of your arms, hands, wrists, and fingers to use handheld tools
· Physical Strength and stamina: Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to hold, push, pull, lift and carry heavy items




· Ability to use proper lifting techniques to lift items weighing in excess of 50 lbs.
· Ability to work with others in a team
· Ability to operate required equipment and tools in a protected and responsible manner
· Oral and written comprehension - Demonstrated ability to follow instructions
· Flexibility and adaptability

QUALIFICATIONS

· Must be willing to learn and be open to completing required safety training, or industry standard training to advance knowledge and be successful
· Must successfully complete drug and alcohol testing
· Experience in construction, industrial and/or petroleum industry is required
· Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
· Certificates for equipment operation considered an asset
· Travel is required. Candidates must be free to travel locally, nationally and potentially internationally to support the diverse and wide spread work/contracts our client supports
· Valid Canadian passport or ability to obtain one
· Compensation based on experience
· Reference check required
