About BUILD

BUILD Inc. is an Indigenous non-profit social enterprise and paid training program in Winnipeg. Since 2006, more than 1,000 people facing barriers to employment have built construction skills and launched careers through BUILD. Our program combines hands-on experience with employment, cultural and wrap-around supports.

The role

This hybrid role combines youth care planning, external work-placement support and practical trades instruction. You will work with trainees ages 16 to 29 who face barriers to employment, helping them address immediate needs, remain engaged, build construction skills and transition successfully into work.

What you will do

- Provide one-on-one youth support. Maintain a caseload, hold regular check-ins and develop practical support, employment and exit plans.
- Coordinate wrap-around services. Connect youth with housing, counselling, addictions, justice, income and other community supports and follow up on referrals.
- Support retention and placements. Address attendance or transition concerns early, coordinate external placements and maintain contact with youth and employment partners.
- Teach practical trades skills. Support instruction in drywall, taping, mudding, sanding, painting, trades numeracy, safety and tool use within your experience and assigned role.
- Coach youth through practice. Demonstrate tasks, observe work and provide explicit feedback that builds confidence, quality and safe work habits.
- Support intake and teamwork. Participate in information sessions, interviews, orientation, case meetings and coordinated planning with BUILD staff.
- Maintain records and data. Complete timely case notes, placement follow-up, service and outcome data, and secure, organized files.

What you bring

- Case-management training plus at least one year of related experience, or at least three years of comparable youth-support or human-services experience.
- More than two years of construction-trades experience; relevant informal experience and hands-on training will be considered.




- Experience supporting youth or adults who face multiple barriers to employment or who are marginalized.
- Strong knowledge of Winnipeg-area youth and community services and the ability to build effective referral relationships.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories and contemporary realities, together with cultural humility.
- Experience delivering skills training, demonstrations, workshops or presentations to different learners.
- Strong communication, de-escalation, teamwork, organization, case-note and data-entry skills.
- A valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence and willingness to complete the required Child Abuse Registry Check process.

Assets

- First Nations, Inuit or Metis identity, relevant lived experience, community relationships, cultural knowledge and/or an Indigenous language.
- Relationships with youth services, Indigenous organizations, employers, justice supports or placement partners.
- Relevant construction safety certifications or experience in an employment-training or social-enterprise setting.
