Summary

- Assists and supports the teacher and other professionals in the delivery of regular or alternate programs for communication between deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing learners/staff.
- Works collaboratively with a District Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Classroom Teacher to perform Duties and Responsibilities.

Qualifications

- Completion of a recognized Sign Language Interpretation Diploma Program plus one year related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Obtain and maintain membership to the Westcoast Association of Visual Language Interpreters (WAVLI)
- Preference will be given to candidates with at least one year of experience working with people who are deaf or hard of hearing (Practicums and formal learning will be taken into account)
- Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a 1 Year Education Assistant Certificate
- WHMIS 2015 Certificate and familiarity with WorkSafeBC safety procedures

Successful Candidates May Be Required To

- Test on the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) and obtain a minimum Level 4 rating as assessed by the Sign Language Institute of Canada
