School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) has a vacancy for a energetic and passionate educator at Mt.

Sentinel Secondary

School in South Slocan, BC. Sentinel is a Grade 7-12 school, with a current enrolment of 285 students. We are looking for an innovative, creative, and flexible teacher who demonstrates a proficient understanding of the renewed BC curriculum, the K–12 Reporting Policy, and School District 8, Kootenay Lake’s 2024–2029 Strategic Plan.

The successful applicant will have recent experience teaching English Language Arts and Social Studies at the secondary level and be comfortable working with students across multiple grade levels. We invite you to join our dynamic and collaborative school team, committed to supporting the academic, social-emotional, and deeper learning needs of a diverse student body in our rural school setting. This is a part-time Senior Humanities position providing coverage for a teacher on partial leave during Semester 1.

The successful applicant will work a partial day on Mondays and will be responsible for teaching Social Studies 10 and English Language Arts 10 - 12. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with colleagues to provide continuity of learning and programming for students. This position requires a teacher who is comfortable teaching across multiple secondary grade levels, establishing strong relationships with students, and working collaboratively within an established classroom and school program.

A valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch. Bachelor of Education (Middle or Secondary) with a major in English or Social Studies Recent successful experience teaching English and Social Studies at the secondary school level in the past 5 years. Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies.

Experience collaborating with colleagues and the School-Based Team, including Inclusion Support, Aboriginal Education, Education Assistants, and Counselling, to plan and implement appropriate supports, adaptations,



modifications, and differentiation for students with diverse learning and behavioral needs. # Knowledge and application of current, research-informed practices that support social-emotional learning, mental health literacy, and student well-being. # Demonstrated ability to establish clear learning intentions aligned with BC curriculum Big Ideas and Curricular Competencies, and to communicate student learning effectively with students and families in accordance with the K–12 Student Reporting Policy. # Experience using educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning, along with a demonstrated willingness to learn and integrate new tools and applications. # Demonstrated ability to incorporate Indigenous worldviews, perspectives, and knowledge into teaching and learning, and to build respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community. # Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning and reflective practice aligned with school and district priorities. Placement on the salary grid is based on qualifications and years of teaching experience as evaluated by the BC Teacher Qualification Service (TQS). Applicants must be certified in British Columbia with a Professional Teaching Certificate, or be eligible for certification by the start date of the assignment.
