Sentinel is a Grade 7–12 school with a current enrolment of approximately 285 students. We are a collaborative rural school community committed to providing inclusive, engaging, and relevant learning experiences for a diverse range of students. The successful applicant will teach two blocks of English Language Arts 9 within a part-time rotating block schedule and will demonstrate an understanding of the BC English Language Arts curriculum and current assessment and reporting practices. The successful applicant will create an engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning setting that develops students' literacy, communication, critical and creative thinking, and confidence as readers, writers, speakers, and thinkers. A valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch.

Bachelor of Education with an academic background in English, or other appropriate educational background and/or successful experience teaching English Language Arts at the intermediate or secondary level. Understanding of the BC English Language Arts curriculum and current assessment and reporting practices. Demonstrated ability to support a diverse range of learners through differentiated and inclusive instructional practices.





Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a school team. Create safe, inclusive, culturally responsive, and mutually respectful learning environments that foster student engagement, belonging, self-regulation, and academic growth, providing all students with meaningful opportunities to achieve curricular outcomes. Design and deliver culturally secure learning experiences that incorporate Indigenous perspectives, knowledge, and ways of knowing and support the principles of reconciliation, equity, antiracism, and inclusion.

Demonstrate strong instructional practice and the ability to develop students’ understanding, skills, critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and confidence through a variety of instructional approaches and learning experiences. Identify and respond to individual student strengths and gaps in learning through appropriate scaffolding, intervention, extension, differentiation, and multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning. Collaborate effectively with colleagues and the School Based Team, including the Learning Support Teacher, Indigenous Education Teacher, Education Assistants, Counsellor, and other support staff, to identify and implement appropriate supports, adaptations, modifications, and differentiated learning opportunities for students, including those identified through Individual Education Plans.





Establish clear learning intentions and success criteria connected to BC curricular competencies, content, and Big Ideas, and communicate student learning and progress effectively to students and families. Develop and use assessment and evaluation practices that support learning and align with the BC curriculum and K–12 Student Reporting Policy, including formative assessment, descriptive feedback, and opportunities for students to reflect on and demonstrate their learning in multiple ways. Applicants must be certified in British Columbia with a Professional Teaching Certificate, or be eligible for certification by the start date of the assignment.
