Tessera Institute for Global Affairs is seeking an organized and intellectually engaged Volunteer Academic Events Coordinator to help develop and deliver our programme of online academic and policy events.

The programme will include expert seminars, interviews with prominent scholars and practitioners, and Work-in-Progress sessions where PhD candidates can present their research and receive constructive feedback.

Key activities

- Help develop Tessera’s academic-events programme and calendar.
- Identify and approach suitable scholars, experts, and practitioners.
- Secure speakers’ voluntary participation and serve as their principal point of contact.
- Support speakers and moderators with scheduling, preparation, and online-event logistics.
- Coordinate invitations, event materials, virtual platforms, and post-event follow-up.
- Liaise with Tessera’s leadership and the Heads of Outreach and Communications to promote events and engage relevant audiences.

Preferred background
- A completed or ongoing graduate degree in Political Science, International Relations, Security Studies, or a related field is preferred.
- Candidates with a relevant undergraduate degree and strong organizational and communication skills will also be considered.




- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Confidence in communicating with senior academics and policy professionals.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow through on agreed commitments.
- A genuine interest in international affairs, research, and academic exchange.
- Previous experience organizing academic, professional, or online events is an asset but not required.

Nature of the commitmentThis is an unpaid, voluntary opportunity rather than a position of employment. Involvement is expected to average approximately 10–15 hours in a typical month, although this may fluctuate with the events calendar. This estimate is provided for planning purposes and does not constitute a fixed schedule or guaranteed number of hours. Activities and deadlines will be agreed flexibly, taking into account the volunteer’s availability and the requirements of individual events.

The initial volunteer appointment will normally run for six months and may be renewed by mutual agreement. Either the volunteer or Tessera may end the arrangement at any time.

The role offers an prospect to contribute to Tessera’s growing intellectual community, develop experience in academic-event programming, and build relationships with scholars and practitioners working in international affairs.
