The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy, operational, and enforcement activities. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development. We offer a diverse, fair, and flexible work environment and take pride in our challenging and rewarding work.
The OSC offers a rotational program that consists of two components. First is the Work Experience Rotation Period that will follow a structured work plan that has been approved by CPA Ontario. This component is 24 months (net of absences) and allows candidates to obtain necessary foundational and professional work experience requirements needed for the CPA designation.
Next, the Multi-Group Assignment Period component of our program provides participants the opportunity to gain valuable, diverse experience in various Divisions of Canada’s largest securities market regulator, subsequent to completing the CPA designation requirements.
Overview of the OSC’s Rotational Program
- Work Experience Rotation Period (24 months, net of absences) – Participants will complete the CPA foundational and professional work experience requirements by rotating through the following divisions within the OSC: Registration, Inspections and Examinations Division and the Corporate Finance Division.
- Multi-Group Assignment Period (36 months) – Subsequent to completing the CPA designation requirements in the Work Experience Rotation Period, participants will be assigned to available opportunities in various other groups of the OSC to continue to grow and develop their experience. During this period, rotations could include the following groups: Internal Audit Division, Department of the Chief Accountant, or Enforcement Division.
- Upon completion of the Multi-Group Assignment Period, or earlier as needed, a participant will be placed into a permanent position.
