Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounting Manager to join our Finance team. The Accounting Manager will support all aspects of accounting, financial reporting and regulatory compliance, with a focus on the unique requirements of an insurance brokerage.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Oversee the reconciliation of policy transactions, insurer statements, broker bill receivables, direct bill commissions and trust balances.
- Be the first escalation point for internal and external stakeholders on premium accounting matters.
- Participate in Month-End, Quarter-End and Year-End closing procedures including journal entries, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations.
- Ensure sub-ledgers reconcile to the general ledger and coordinate and perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Establish and monitor key accounting controls to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and consistently in accordance with company policies, procedures and ASPE requirements.
- Assist with annual audits, including liaising with external auditors and preparing audit schedules, supporting documentation and responses to inquiries.




- Identify areas of process improvements and automation to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.
- Act as the accounting subject matter expert for Applied Epic, including premium accounting workflows, billing processes, system controls, reconciliations, user support and training.
- Monitor premium receivable aging and collection activities, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution of outstanding balances.
- Support the maintenance of trust accounting records and ensure premium funds are accurately accounted for and remitted in accordance with regulatory and insurer requirements.
- Manage, coach and develop team members, including workload planning, performance management and professional development.
- Promote and strengthen business resiliency.
- Maintain cross-training and process documentation to support business continuity including acting as a back-up for core functions.
- Support the Financial Planning & Analysis function.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
- CPA designation (or working toward completion) is considered an asset.
- 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in an insurance broker or at a large accounting firm
- Previous experience managing and developing others is considered an asset. Proficiency with Applied Epic is considered a significant asset.
- Strong technical accounting skills, with a good understanding of ASPE.




- Knowledge of the regulatory requirements and accounting standards applicable to an Insurance Brokerage.
- Advanced excel skills (including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS and other formulae and data analysis techniques).
- Intermediate Skills with respect to Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
- Strong critical thinking and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Solid communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions.

Compensation

Purves Redmond Limited is committed to fair and transparent compensation practices. The base salary range for this role is $95,000–$115,000. This range reflects the expected hiring range for the position and may vary based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and overall fit. Additional compensation, where applicable, may include performance-based incentives, commissions, or bonuses.
