Salary: $45,000-$55,000 – depending on experience

About the Role
We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and motivated File Opening Clerk to join our personal injury law firm. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin or develop their career in the legal field.
The successful candidate will be responsible for opening and setting up new client files, ensuring that information is entered accurately into our systems, and assisting with the initial administrative steps involved in bringing a new matter into the firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Open new client files and ensure all required information is accurately entered into the firm’s case management system
- Review intake information and documentation for completeness and accuracy
- Create and organize electronic client files
- Enter and maintain client and file information in firm’s database
- Prepare initial file-opening documentation and correspondence
- Draft initial request letters to insurance companies, medical facilities and other relevant parties
- Obtain and organize required client documents
- Request and follow up on outstanding information or documentation
- Ensure limitation dates and other important dates are properly recorded and diarized
- Assist with obtaining insurance and accident information where required
- Ensure files are opened in accordance with the firm’s procedures and protocols
- Assist lawyers, law clerks and legal assistants with administrative tasks
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive client information professionally
- Perform other administrative duties as required
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience in personal injury litigation is an asset but not required
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working with computers and learning new software
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work in a busy environment
- Professional and courteous manner
- Ability to work independently while also being a team player
- Strong willingness to learn and develop new skills
