Job Duties
- Foster a positive learning environment for learners of diverse socio, economic and cultural backgrounds
- Facilitate the process of planning, work and growth for learners
- Select, adapt and create appropriate learning materials and resources
- Communicate effectively with learners and colleagues
- Develop strategies for teaching each learner
- Use methods, tools and procedures appropriate for assessment and evaluation
- Self-evaluate professional needs, knowledge and skills, and participate in professional development
- Complete program reports as required including record keeping and composing correspondence
- Assess and respond to learners’ needs for referral, intake, and ongoing evaluation
- Work in partnership with LBS community and Employment Service Network to intake, assess, refer
- Document intake and assessment as well as ongoing and exit assessments
- Provide informal counseling to clients
- Ensure cleanliness of location
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- College Diploma in Adult Education, Social Service Worker or equivalent
- Teaching/tutoring experience and/or demonstrated understanding and application of the principles of adult education
- Strong assessment and organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task, be adaptable and to clearly communicate verbally and in writing
- Demonstrate effective problem solving ability
- Able to take initiative and work as part of a team
- Knowledge of services related to adult literacy
- Strong academic ability (grammar, math, spelling, reading)
- Basic understanding and knowledge of learning styles
- Familiar with learning disabilities and their impact on learning
- Demonstrate experience in a leadership role with minimal supervision
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Computer literacy
Work Conditions
- May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
- Interacts with clients, visitors and staff from other organizations
- Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting
- Manual dexterity required to use computers and peripherals; kitchen appliances, etc.
