Calian / Deloitte is a third‑party service provider contracted by the Canadian Armed Forces Recruiting Group (CFRG) to provide information and candidate sourcing support for CAF career opportunities and entry programs.
Overview:
As a member of the military, Anesthesiologists belong to the Medical Specialist occupation in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and provide specialized emergent resuscitative and anesthesia care for CAF members, whether in Canadian Forces Health Services domestic clinics/operating theaters or deployed in support of international operations. They have the opportunity to be a leader within the CAF Health Services and serve as mentor and educator to the full spectrum of military health care providers.
Responsibilities:
- Provide anesthetic consultation for CAF Members in Canada;
- Be part of emergency resuscitation and surgical teams in Canada and in deployed settings, internationally;
- Provide in-transport care for injured or ill CAF members during evacuation back to Canada;
- Educate and advise multidisciplinary teams on emergency resuscitation, airway management, sedation and acute pain management;
- Maintain a high level of clinical skills, by holding a position within a civilian health care facility;
- Contribute to the development and application of health care policies within the CAF
Requirements:
Education & Certifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Licensure (or eligibility for licensure) to practice medicine in Canada.
- Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Internal Medicine.
- Royal College subspecialty certification in Anesthesiology or equivalent fellowship training in Anesthesiology.
Experience
- Experience providing anesthesia care across a broad range of surgical and procedural settings.
- Demonstrated expertise in airway management, perioperative medicine, sedation, and acute pain management.
- Experience managing critically ill or injured patients in emergency, trauma, intensive care, or perioperative environments.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Teaching, mentoring, and clinical education experience considered an asset.
- Experience supporting trauma care, aeromedical evacuation, military operations, humanitarian missions, or austere healthcare environments is considered an asset.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills in high-acuity and rapidly evolving healthcare environments.
- Advanced expertise in airway management, anesthesia delivery, resuscitation, and perioperative patient care.
- Ability to provide anesthesia and critical care support in deployed, austere, or operational settings.
- Knowledge of patient safety principles, quality improvement initiatives, and evidence-based anesthesia practices.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and consultation skills.
- Commitment to continuous career development and maintaining clinical readiness.
- Ability to contribute to healthcare policy development, operational planning, and readiness initiatives within the CAF Health Services.
