Centre is growing and hiring an Assistant Head Nurse who thrives in evenings, nights, weekends, and meaningful leadership opportunities. At this time, patient intake hours are Monday to Friday from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. While intake ends at those times, patient care often continues beyond intake hours, and some shifts may extend as late as 2:00 AM to ensure safe, complete, and uninterrupted care.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will support daily operations, patient flow, and staff in a dynamic urgent care environment. Although the clinic is intended for non-emergent conditions, patient status can change rapidly. You will be expected to use strong clinical judgment, leadership skills, and situational awareness to support the team, respond to evolving patient needs, and facilitate timely escalation of care when required.

Description

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities.



Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life

Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of current Emergency or Urgent Care nursing experience, including demonstrated leadership experience as a Charge Nurse. The candidate must exhibit strong leadership, initiative, sound clinical judgment, and adaptability in responding to changing operational and patient care needs.

Experience with Connect Care or a comparable electronic health record system is required. This role combines leadership and clinical responsibilities, requiring the ability to support staff, coordinate patient flow, and contribute to daily unit operations in a fast-paced setting. The position is physically demanding and involves prolonged standing and walking, patient transfers, and repetitive lifting, pushing, and pulling.

Must have a minimum of three of the following certifications: Current certification in Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course (ENCP). Current certification in Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC). Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Current certification in Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS).

Emergency specific certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred should demonstrate excellence in communication, team collaboration, conflict resolution, mentorship, and patient flow management. Candidates with a proven commitment to staff development, quality improvement initiatives, and supporting a culture of safe, patient-centered care will be given preference.
