CBC News Podcasts is looking for an Associate Producer with expertise in podcast editing and sound design, and a passion for CBC’s news storytelling. This work supports the CBC News Podcasting strategy, which exists to reach new audiences for CBC’s journalism in the podcast and digital audio space.

This is a 12 month temporary, full-time position, Monday to Friday, primarily daytime hours but with flexibility for working with team members coast-to-coast. It is a hybrid role, requiring you to be in the workplace at least three days a week, at any of CBC locations in Canada.

Our mandate is to amplify our news journalism in the podcast space, and that means video and social media are key to our podcasting strategy.

We work with CBC teams in several ways;

- producing original always-on news podcasts like Front Burner and Two Blocks from the White House
- supporting our local This Is podcasts
- assisting network audio and video teams to increase their podcasting presence
- developing original news podcast series like See You In Court and upcoming investigative series.

We work in deep collaboration with CBC News Studios, the Podcast Audience Growth Hub, and CBC Podcasts to create audience-focused podcast content and best practices around podcasting. About The Role In this role, you will support our news podcast teams, assigned to new and ongoing projects throughout the year as needed.

This means you’ll be working with CBC journalists with varying levels of longform audio experience to help us amplify CBC’s original,



enterprise and investigative content in the podcast space for new audiences.

You will be responsible for leading the recording and post-production for all audio projects, to ensure the highest quality sound. This includes booking studios, recording interviews and troubleshooting technical issues with software/audio equipment, as well as working with producers to edit and mix podcast episodes, source music, archival tape and clips, suggest edits and respond to edit notes.

You are equally comfortable behind the board in studio, or using software to mix a multi-track audio documentary. You believe high quality audio is important, love using sound and music to elevate audio storytelling, and are excited to share your knowledge and experience with colleagues at different stages of their podcasting journey.

You’re responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

- With oversight from a CBC News Podcasts Exec or Senior Producer, contribute to the development and production of CBC News Podcast projects as needed
- Support CBC News teams in building podcast content from their original, enterprise and investigative journalism
- Coordinate and execute the recording and production of interviews for a podcast format
- Mix and edit podcast episodes, promos, trailers and other audio assets, in coordination with the producer and senior producer
- Source clips, archival tape, music, and sound for podcast projects
- Manage all audio files associated with the podcast, for current and future use
- Help to equip and guide journalists on best practices for recording audio in the field
- Edit and mix episodes in accordance with CBC News Podcasts’ strategy and in adherence to the JSP
- Coordinate and execute publishing of podcast episodes and metadata..

About You

- You are committed to CBC News’ values around local service, audio strategy, and our Journalistic Standards and Practices
- You have a track record of recording studio interviews, mixing and editing long form audio and news format programs
- You have a minimum of 3 years experience in audio or podcast production
- You have experience working with creative contributors, responding to feedback and helping develop a podcast’s sonic footprint




- You’re a sound expert who is stays on top of new techniques, processes and software in the audio spaceYou’re a critical thinker who can come up with innovative ways to use resources to support a wide variety of needs and possible use cases
- You’re detail-oriented and love to nerd out what small tweaks can make big impacts on content, workflow and audiences
- You forge positive team relationships where you value collaboration, transparency, respect and inclusiveness
- You understand the fundamentals of what makes a podcast different from our other news formats.
