About the Thompson-Nicola Regional District The Thompson-Nicola Regional District is located in south-central British Columbia, with dozens rural and urban communities spread across 44,300 square kilometres. The TNRD provides more than 120 local government services to approximately 151,000 people in 10 Electoral Areas, 11 member municipalities, and 25 First Nations. The TNRD is headquartered in the City of Kamloops, the largest community within the regional district.

The Thompson-Nicola region has a vast range of climates that experience true four-season weather, with plenty of year-round sunshine, little rain, and warm summers. Residents generally have short commutes, easy access to recreation and the outdoors, and a high quality of life. The TNRD acknowledges that we are located within the unceded, ancestral lands of the Nlaka’pumux, Secwépemc, St’at’imc, Simpcw, and Syilx Nations.

Our Library System The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL), the biggest Regional District department provides services through 13 locations and a Mobile Library. Located in the Central Interior of British Columbia, the TNRL is committed to providing excellent service to patrons for a lifetime of personal growth, learning and enjoyment. The Library team provides programming, materials and resources to people of all ages and abilities.

The Temporary Branch

Located in the heart of British Columbia, Clearwater is a thriving community of over 2,300 residents and the gateway to the Wells Gray Provincial Park with its stunning Helmcken Falls and Trophy Mountains. Forestry, tourism and related sports and outdoor activities make this beautiful rural community a place for all seasons. Blue River is a small community situated on Highway 5 halfway between Jasper and Kamloops at the confluence of the Blue and North Thompson Rivers.

Located 230 km. from Kamloops, the pristine landscape attracts wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts in all seasons. The area population is approximately 175.

The Role The TNRL is recruiting a one year Temporary Branch Head for the Clearwater & Blue River Libraries.

The Temporary Branch Head leads day-to-day operations, programming,



and community engagement at the Clearwater Library. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a busy, vibrant community library; spending time with patrons; delivering quality programs for all ages; and building solid local connections.

The Temporary Branch Head is involved in all aspects of library service, including shelving, tidying, merchandising, circulation, readers’ advisory, and technology help. This position requires the ability to work independently and confidently. The role also supports system-wide collection management and the introduction of new technologies. In addition, the Temporary Branch Head travels to Blue River to support the team and deliver special programming.

The Branch

Head provides remote support through tools such as Microsoft Teams and phone calls. This position also helps recruit, develop, and mentor part-time and casual library staff in both libraries, with the goal of building team strengths and ensuring that each library is a welcoming environment for all. Working collegially with other library leaders, the Temporary Clearwater Library Branch Head will participate in system-wide committees and projects that improve services across the TNRL.

The Branch

Head may also travel for meetings and/or professional development.

Requirements

Preferred Education/Experience:

- A Library & Information Technology Diploma.
- Recent customer service and programming experience in public libraries.
- Proven leadership experience, with the capability to inspire staff and the community through engaging and educational library services.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Leadership:

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively connect with staff and the public.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, with skill in dealing openly and tactfully in a variety of situations.




- Advocacy and community engagement with residents for the Clearwater Library, the TNRL, and the TNRD
- Ability to lead others while enhancing individual and team effectiveness.

- A Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
- There is a physical component to this position. Ability to lift and carry 20-25lbs, stand for extended periods, lifting, bending are required frequently.

Schedule:

This position has 3 regularly scheduled forward facing days Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Wednesday and Thursday shifts are typically Working Alone. The remaining weekly hours are worked as Administrative time to allow the Branch Head the flexibility to travel to Blue River, meet with outside groups, or schedule time on a Friday and Saturday to overlap with other team members.

The position is subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the BC General Employees Union (BCGEU), Local 705 and is a Grid 14 position ($31.80/hr - $35.20/hr) + a percentage in lieu of benefits. A New Hire Progression applies for new hires (90% of full rate).
