Business Development Manager – Industrial Construction

Location: British Columbia or Alberta preferred

Territory: British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan

Compensation: $115,000–$160,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus performance-based incentive

Employment Type: Full-time

The Opportunity

A well-established construction company is looking for a Business Development Manager to support its growth across Western Canada.

The focus of this role is larger industrial construction opportunities across British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

This is a role for someone who wants real ownership of the market they cover. You will be expected to build relationships, identify opportunities early, help shape pursuit strategy and stay involved through the full business development cycle.

The successful person will already understand the industrial construction market and know how major projects move from early planning into procurement and award.

You will work closely with senior leadership, estimating and operations. There is direct access to decision-makers, room to influence which opportunities are pursued, and the ability to build a meaningful pipeline rather than simply work from a list of assigned leads.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

- Build and manage a pipeline of industrial construction opportunities across BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

- Develop long-term relationships with industrial owners, engineering firms, consultants and other key project stakeholders.

- Identify upcoming capital projects, expansions, facility upgrades and new construction opportunities before they reach formal tender.

- Understand client priorities, procurement plans, schedules and project drivers.

- Qualify opportunities based on size, location, delivery model, competition and overall fit.

- Work directly with senior leadership, estimating and operations to determine pursuit strategy.

- Support proposals, presentations, interviews, commercial discussions and client meetings.

- Help position the company for negotiated, design-build, construction management and other relationship-driven opportunities.

- Maintain strong client relationships throughout longer project-development and sales cycles.

- Track market activity, planned projects and relevant industry developments.

- Support the handoff of successful pursuits into preconstruction and project delivery.

- Maintain clear reporting on pipeline, active pursuits and client activity.

- Represent the company at industry events, client meetings and relevant association functions.

- Travel throughout Western Canada as required.

What We’re Looking For

- Experience in business development, project development, preconstruction or a related role within construction.

- Strong understanding of industrial construction and major capital projects.

- Experience developing business with industrial owners, engineering firms, consultants or other major project stakeholders.

- Established relationships within the Western Canadian industrial market would be highly valued.

- Solid knowledge of how construction opportunities progress from early planning through procurement and award.

- Ability to have credible conversations with both commercial and technical stakeholders.

- Experience working closely with estimating, preconstruction and operations teams.

- Good judgement around which opportunities are worth pursuing.

- Comfortable managing long, relationship-driven sales cycles.

- Able to work independently and take ownership of a broad geographic territory.

- Comfortable building new relationships while also developing existing accounts.

- Willing to travel throughout BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan as required.

Relevant Experience

Experience developing business within large industrial or infrastructure-related construction environments would be particularly relevant.

This could include work involving:

- Major industrial facilities

- Manufacturing and processing

- Energy and utilities

- Mining and natural resources

- Forestry and related industrial operations

- Large facility expansions and upgrades

- Major infrastructure or complex capital projects

Experience with negotiated work, design-build, construction management and competitive procurement would be an asset.

Why This Role Could Be Interesting

This is not a narrowly defined sales role.

You will have the ability to build your own market, develop relationships at an early stage and influence which opportunities the company pursues.

You will work directly with senior decision-makers and have visibility into both the commercial and operational side of the business.

For someone who already knows the Western Canadian industrial market, this is an opportunity to take on broader ownership, pursue larger and more complex projects, and play a meaningful role in shaping future growth.

The company is looking for someone who can create access to the right projects, build credibility with clients and help turn strong relationships into real construction opportunities.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range is $115,000–$150,000, depending on experience and existing market relationships, plus a performance-based incentive.

The company is open to considering candidates at different levels within that range, including someone moving up from a smaller-scale industrial BD role as well as a more established heavy-industrial business developer with a strong Western Canadian network.
