$21.66- $24.27

Overview

VHA's Child and Family Support Worker (CFSW) is responsible for providing child care and home support to families caring for children from birth to 4 years, and recovering from a medical and/or crisis situation. They provide emotional support and guidance to parents dealing with mental health issues (e.g., postpartum depression). The CFSW helps families with concrete childcare and home supports activities including light housekeeping and child care ADL’s.

Key Areas of Accountability

- Provides care to children age 0-4 years old with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
- Provides physical and emotional support to parents recovering from medical health conditions in carrying out normal household routines and ADLs (such as light cleaning and laundry, child care).
- Provides food planning and preparation, if needed.
- Ensures meals are nutritious and accommodates special diets.
- Provides a range of infant care activities (bathing, diaper changes, infant stimulation).
- May teach and demonstrate caring activities to help parents learn to perform them independently.
- Encourages the parent to do as much as possible independently.
- Provides teaching and mentoring to first-time parents in caring for newborns and/or those with special needs.
- Provides emotional support and guidance in caring for multiple newborns (e.g., establishing routines and schedules).
- Develops and plans educational and recreational activities that are age-appropriate.

Required Qualifications





- 2 years’ experience in childcare and/or internationally trained experience, and/or
- Certification in one of the following: Early Childhood Education Certificate/Diploma, Childcare Assistant, Mothercraft Childcare Certificate, Midwife, PSW Certificate recognized by the relevant ministry, or internationally trained Registered Nurse, Registered Practical Nurse, Midwife or Physician, or equivalent.
- First Aid/CPR Certificate is an asset.
- At least 1 year of experience working in the community.
- Experience with mental health issues (e.g., postpartum depression) is an asset.
- Experience in developing age-appropriate education and recreational activities.
- Experience working with children with special needs (e.g., Autism).
- Experience in teaching/mentoring current parents.
- Experience in preparation of nutritious meals.
