Child & Youth Care Worker - Temporary Temporary, December 18 2026 34.59 Per Hour The Child and Youth Care Worker (CYCW) supports the emotional, social, and behavioural development of children and youth in the K–12 education system. Working collaboratively with school staff, families, and community agencies, the CYCW provides direct support to students experiencing personal, social, or behavioral challenges.

The goal is to foster safe, inclusive, and supportive school environments that promote student well‑being and academic success. Diploma or Degree in Child and Youth Care (CYC), Social Work or Social Sciences, or a related field. Additional training in trauma-informed practice, restorative practices, or crisis intervention is an asset.

Minimum 2 years of experience working with children or youth in educational or community settings.

Experience supporting students with diverse needs, including behavioural, developmental, or mental health and substance use challenges. Understanding of child and adolescent development.

Incorporating

Indigenous knowledge to provide culturally respectful, trauma-informed care, supporting the identity, healing, and well‑being of Indigenous children and youth. Demonstrates the ability to work independently, managing tasks efficiently while maintaining a high standard of care and support for children and youth Support students in setting and working towards achievable social, emotional and behavioural goals.



Provide after-school support and or programs as per student needs.

Implement individualized support strategies to address behavioural, emotional, and social needs. Facilitate or co-facilitate group activities or programs focused on prevention including but not limited to social-emotional learning, self-regulation, and life skills. Liaise with parents/caregivers and community professionals (e.g., social workers, mental health clinicians, Indigenous support workers) to support student success.

Coordinates and implements school food/meal program as applicable. Assist in implementing school-wide social-emotional learning frameworks. Prepare reports as required by school administration or district student services. applies for community grants and bursaries; Provide community-based outreach services including submitting referrals to outside agencies, arranging appointments, facilitating recreational opportunities, and supporting students and families to access resources and programming.

Valid

Class 5 B.required to transport students in personal vehicle. ( Valid First Aid/CPR Certification (may be required). Additional certifications or course work may be required for specific programs. Applies for Take a Hike Program Only - Participates in all aspects of the Take a Hike Program including multi-day overnight camping trips (such as hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, rope course, etc.), contributes to risk management plans for all outdoor pursuits; Demonstrates the ability to work independently, managing tasks efficiently while maintaining a high standard of care and support for children and youth.
