Giffen Consulting Ltd. (Giffen) is looking to hire a Civil Engineer with a mining and/or heavy industrial background to join our growing team. We are looking for an individual to join us on a full time basis in our Vancouver or Toronto office. This is a hybrid work arrangement with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.

Earthworks

Engineering & Technical Leadership Lead engineering and design for major earthworks scopes, including: Site grading and overall site development Earthworks for process plants, haul roads, laydown areas, and site pads Excavation, embankments, slopes, berms, and cut/fill optimization Surface water management for earthworks areas (ditches, channels, culverts, ponds) Develop and review earthworks design criteria, standards, and QA/QC practices. Conduct advanced engineering calculations, including runoff, drainage routing, slope stability coordination (with geotechnical consultants), and cut/fill analysis. Oversee development of 3D civil models, grading plans, and construction‑ready earthworks packages.

Project





Delivery & Management Own all civil earthworks scopes across multiple simultaneous projects. Provide senior-level review of design deliverables, drawings, and calculations. Support construction with field reviews, RFI responses, and design clarifications.

Act as the primary earthworks technical contact for owners and project partners. Build and maintain strong long‑term relationships with clients. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and practical problem‑solving.

Prepare and lead technical reports, design briefs, specifications, and review documents. Ensure all earthworks engineering aligns with EGBC requirements and industry best practices. Degree in Engineering with Civil/Structural focus from an accredited university. ~ 7+ years progressive experience as a Civil Engineer on mining and/or heavy industrial projects. ~ Civil3D Experience. ~ Familiar with greenfield and brownfield mining projects in both open‑pit and underground mine design. ~ Excellent organizational, technical, communication and computer skills. ~ Well‑developed organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects.
