Description:
The successful candidate will have approximately 2.5 days of endoscopy per week which would include diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy (ERCP, EUS) with intermittent added days of programmatic colon cancer screening colonoscopy (excluding holidays, service weeks and conference leave), on average for 46 weeks per year.
Key accountabilities of the clinical Therapeutic endoscopist will include participation in all aspects of inpatient and outpatient Gastroenterology healthcare including but not limited to, city-wide night-, weekend- and holiday- call, and administrative tasks. The successful candidate will also be expected to implement and manage patients in a hospital-based therapeutic endoscopy role.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will
- Be an MD (or equivalent) with Fellowship training in Therapeutic endoscopy including ERCP and EUS from a recognized training center, and must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
- Have a solid foundation in therapeutic endoscopy and contribute to a high-volume multidisciplinary practice.
- At minimum, candidates must be proficient in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Additional expertise in advanced endoscopic techniques will be considered a significant asset.
Preferred Skills/Assets The selected candidate will ideally have additional training or demonstrated expertise in one of more of the following:
- Complex polypectomy and advanced mucosal resection (EMR,ESD)
- Third space endoscopy (e.g. POEM, G-POEM, Z-POEM)
- Endoscopic management of GI bleeding or luminal defects
- Experience with endoscopic suturing or other advanced closure techniques
- Bariatric endoscopy (e.g. endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty)
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
